UNITED CHRISTMAS LUNCH
Year(s) Active: 2013 - Present
Project Partners: Parafield Gardens Community Club
Project Partners: Parafield Gardens Community Club
During 2020 & 2021 this event did not take place. A present drive/ christmas appeal took it place and over the 2 year collective donate over $2000 worth of christmas toys to the Northern Domestic Violence Service and Backpacks for SA Kids Inc.
|
Every year since our formation as a Rotaract Club, in partnership with the Parafield Gardens Community Club, we have helped organise a free community Christmas Day lunch at ‘The Club’ for those who may not have one to go to on a day as special a Christmas Day.
The cause was presented to us in 2013 and was one of our group’s first projects in which we undertook. It is something that is close to our hearts and something we take great pride in being a part of. While the driving factor is to provide a welcoming place for those who would have otherwise gone without one, we also have members of the community who come along because they are after something a little different, which just goes to show that this is truly an all-inclusive event. |
It is a fantastic experience to be a part of; witnessing the joy that unfolds throughout the event as people create bonds and friendships beyond their usual company. Not only is everything catered for, free of charge, but all attending children also receive a present donated by members of the community, handed out by Santa himself!
This event wouldn’t be possible without the generosity of Parafield Gardens Community Club, the volunteers on the day and the members of the community who help out Santa by donating presents. The collaborative effort truly captures the spirit of the day and it's hard not to be swept up by it all! |

Project Partners: Best Future School, Julius Venus & Rotary Club of Kiwatule
Salisbury City Rotaract Club was approached through Julius Venas to support a project of his called Best Future Schools. This is a program supporting education for albino and non-albino refugees in the Nakivale Refugee Camp in Uganda.
Julius reached out needing resources like tables and chairs to facilitate the setting up of this school. Our Club was able to raise AUD$600 to support this school in Uganda, completed through a pledge campaign over 7 days and through the kindness of 25 supporters. Founder Julius Venas writes to us and said "This has made parents and children hopeful to have a better place for their education. Thank you once again for the kind support". The pictures show the school and the equipment that was purchased and made with our contribution to the school. |

|
Salisbury City Rotaract Club through President Damien Walker was in the running for the 2019 Local Heroes Grant, which potentially could have won us $10,000. We made it to the Top 6 of our division, Westfield Tea Tree Plaza and were hopeful. Unfortunately voting was very close and we did not make it to the final 3 organisations, and, therefore, didn’t win the grant. We did, however, create a partnership with Westfield Management at TTP and will be working with them in the future to grow our club. Thank you to Rotary and Rotaract Clubs in District 9500 for your support with voting during the 2019 voting period. Photos are from the Celebration evening held in October to acknowledge all finalists. Read about all the local heroes in the attached Story Book, we are on Page 202.

COMMUNITY TIES
Year(s) Active: 2019
The Community Ties Project is designed to help identify the community ties that Rotary Clubs can draw upon for support, and future membership growth.
It can identify new avenues for Rotary Clubs to seek new connections, improve current connections, and plan for the future by taking stock of community situations and needs, and then matching them with Rotary’s unique method of community-based volunteering. This is undertaken through a unique mapping process which is undertaken on an individual level, in order to evaluate connections on a club level. With Rotary based on a refer a friend model, this project aims to help Rotary Clubs make new friends. This project was overseen by Madison Kennewell. |

Salisbury City Rotaract throughout November/December 2018 were seeking Pledges towards making basic hygiene more affordable and accessible in remote areas of Australia. Thank you to 43 people who supported our campaign. This fundraising enabled us to donate $920 to the EndTrachoma by 2020 - an initiative by Rotary Australia. This month also included an Awareness Session where we heard from someone who is on the ground in Northern Territory helping with the cause.
We know that Trachoma is the leading infectious cause of blindness globally and Australia remains the world's last developed country where Trachoma still persists... without Prevention, it will continue to affect our indigenous communities. THIS DONATION GAVE... 7 Indigenous households a washing machine. As well as 23 homes to have a mirror and 21 kids to have their own face washer. |
